The Ontario Region Office is offering the following courses at the 3 Day Educational Seminar being held at the Sheraton Fallsview – 5875 Falls Avenue, Niagara Falls, ON L2G 3K7 from Friday, September 22 – Monday, September 25, 2023.
All applications MUST be received by the Local Union Office by 12:00pm Wed. August 2nd, 2023.
Applications can be submitted online (below) or by mailing or dropping off ,in written form your intent to apply, at the Local Union Office located at 2C-27 Manitou Dr. Kitchener, Ontario N2C 1K9. If mailing or dropping off please ensure you mark down your top three choices on your written form.
The Local Educational Committee will review all applications and will be submitting approved applications to Regional office for their review. Final decision on who attends the Educational is at the discretion of the Regional Office per Articles 11.05 and 11.06 in the National Constitution, and will be chosen based on the needs of their local.
1) Strike Prep
This course is aimed at mobilizing the membership during the rounds of negotiation as well as preparing for and conducting a strike. There is a lot to be learned from previous strikes while also being aware of present circumstances.
2) Social Steward
This course trains members to be Social Stewards within their Local. Social Stewards are resource people who assist co-workers experiencing personal problems. They listen to members, help them identify their concerns, find solutions, and refer them to the appropriate resources.
3) Know Your Rights (Urban)
This course provides a basic introduction to the Urban Collective Agreement. The basic rights and obligations of the contract are explained, along with the grievance procedure, the discipline process, seniority, benefits, harassment, overtime, breaks, and more.
4) Updating Routes & Basic LCRMS
The main objectives of this course are:

– Give the participants an idea of how the LCRMS is structured.
– Teach participants about the main tasks covered by the LCRMS.
– Identify Collective Agreement provisions that relate to the LCRMS.
– Examine the usefulness of each of the documents and how they interrelate.
