Second reading and vote on by-law change; Article 9.1 and 12.4

 

Bylaw Change Proposal to Articles 9.1:

Whereas Union educationals, conventions, and other union functions are often scheduled on the same day as CUPW Local 560 General Membership and Executive meetings;

Whereas some Officers, Executive Members, and other members are therefore unable to attend General Membership meetings while participating in these union events;

Whereas these Officers and members are or may be unable to present in-person reports on Local matters, including but not limited to the President’s Report, grievance reports, and committee updates;

Be it resolved that Article 9.1 be amended to read as follows:

“General Membership meetings, when possible, shall be held on the last Saturday of each month, with the exception of July, August, and December, when meetings may be called if deemed necessary.

a) The time & place of the meeting shall be placed on the bulletin boards at least seven (7) days in advance of the meeting.

b) A quorum of at least twelve (12) Members, including Members of the Executive is necessary for any meeting. If a quorum is not achieved any Members in attendance at start of scheduled meeting will be recorded as attending meeting.”

 

Bylaw Change Proposal to Articles 9.1:

Whereas there are 2 members of the budget committee that are appointed by the LEC and not elected by the membership,

Whereas our organization is largely built on a democracy,

Whereas the appointees may not be in line with the wishes of the membership,

Be it resolved that the 12.4 of CUPW 560 bylaws read as follows (change is in bold):

12.4 Budget Committee

a) Shall consist of five (5) Members; the President, Secretary Treasurer, Recording Secretary & two (2) Members in good standing whom are NOT on the Executive Committee, to be elected by the membership.

b) Shall be responsible for determining honorariums & expense allowance paid to local Executive Committee officers & Shop Stewards.

c) Shall be required to formulate an annual budget.
