Conciliators Appointed….
Wednesday August 14 2024
2023-2027/121
No. 22
On Tuesday August 13, the Union received notification from the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Services (FMCS) that two Conciliation Officers have been appointed to work with both bargaining units. One of the conciliators is the FMCS Senior Director.
Timelines
Under the Canada Labour Code, the conciliation process lasts 60 days. This period will end October 12, 2024, unless both the Employer and the Union agree to extend it.
If no agreement is reached, conciliation is followed by a 21-day “cooling-off” period. The cooling-off period will end November 2.
Strike Vote Coming
Before gaining the right to strike, the Union must first hold a vote of the membership. In the coming days, we will announce dates for these votes. Keep an eye for a bulletin with more information coming soon.
When the time comes, we call on all members to get out and vote “Yes.”
A strong strike mandate gives our Negotiators the power they need at the bargaining table to achieve a good deal.
The earliest the Union can have the right to strike is November 3.
As we have said throughout this entire round of bargaining, the Union is committed to achieving a negotiated settlement at the table. With the help of the conciliators, the Negotiators will continue to make every effort to do this.
Remember, we are 55,000 strong, and together we are unstoppable!
