CUPW to Canada Post:

Negotiations Belong at the Table

Since releasing its 2023 annual report, Canada Post Corporation and the Minister of Procurement and Public Services, have publicly indicated that they’re contemplating service cuts including delivering mail less than five days per week.

We’ve been bargaining with CPC since November 2023. During our meetings, CUPW negotiators asked Canada Post directly if it had any plans or thoughts of implementing alternate-day delivery and their answer was a resounding no.

Canada Post Corporation is bound by the Canadian Postal Service Charter, and by its collective agreements with workers. Canada Post should not get to dictate the contents of the Charter that it is bound by. Nor should the Corporation have the ability to alter the services it offers to Canadians without their input.

While we have taken part in numerous interviews with the media lately to discuss some of our issues, we do not negotiate in the media. We will work to inform Parliament and the public of the real story at Canada Post.

We are talking about thousands of dollars in bonuses paid to management, while they mismanage the public postal service, telling half-truths, and record losses that, when you look at the numbers more carefully, simply don’t add up. All of this is happening in a bargaining year.

We expect Canada Post to meet its obligation to consult with CUPW on operational changes, and to negotiate working conditions in good faith. The workers will have our say.
