***Negotiations Update: Union Counter Proposals Finalized ***

Today, the National Executive Board finalized the Union’s latest counter proposals for the Urban, RSMC and combined demands. CUPW Negotiators quickly forwarded the new proposals to the Special Mediator.
The Union has been ready to return to the mediation process since it was suspended by the Government’s Special Mediator. As such, our counter proposals contain movement on both our demands and Employer demands to help bring the parties closer to an agreement.
We all want CUPW members to get back on the job with their rights protected, health and safety issues resolved, wages that reflect inflation, and security for the future in new collective agreements.
Information
We understand members want more detailed information. While it’s our goal to keep members as up to date as possible, Negotiations are a fluid process, and we need to be very careful about what we say, so the Employer can’t use it against us later.
As soon as we can report more detailed information about the Employer’s framework and the Union’s counter proposals, we will publish it.
Your Actions Matter
Across the country, postal workers are holding strong on picket lines, standing up for good jobs and public services. Negotiating good collective agreements has never been easy, and this round is no different. To win new rights and defend past gains takes time and effort.
Our collective action is not in vain. We’ve seen real movement from Canada Post on our defined benefit pension plan, one of our key issues. Were it not for members standing together as one, we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this. While there is still much work to be done, we need you to know that the actions we take matter.
Remember, we are 55,000 strong, and together we are unstoppable!
In Solidarity,
Jan Simpson
National President
