NEGOTIATIONS BREAK DOWN

Friday January 17 2025
2023-2027/203
No. 72

For two days this week, the Negotiating Committees worked to resolve our bargaining dispute with Canada Post and achieve new collective agreements.

The parties made progress on several major issues, including the new work measurement system for RSMCs.

But rather than prioritize settling new collective agreements, Canada Post tried to impose strict limits on our legal rights in our constitutional challenge to the Minister of Labour’s use of section 107 to end our strike. The Corporation made it clear that it put its narrow legal interests over and above workers’ interests in good, stable jobs and a strong public post office.

Conceding to an Employer’s demand to give up our constitutional rights is not a step the Union can take. The Union is extremely disappointed the Corporation would even consider making this kind of demand.

The Struggle Continues

Our fight to secure the collective agreements we deserve continues. We need members in every local to stay mobilized and show Canada Post that this Union is determined to stand strong and united.

Our next step is the Industrial Inquiry Commission, with the first hearings set for January 27 and 28. Members will be able to watch the proceedings, via a livestream. Once we have more details on how to tune in, we will publish it.

We encourage all members to sign up for E-digest to receive the latest Union news and updates directly in your email inbox.  Visit https://www.cupw.ca/en/cupw-edigest to subscribe today.
